The Eco-Friendly Pizza Box

By Jon  //  Food, Products  //  View Comments

I was reading Scholars & Rogues and was impressed with the innovation in pizza boxes. ECO Incorporated seems to be pretty ambitious in their attempt to change the way people get their pizza. Converting the bottom of the box into a take-home storage container is brilliant. How many times you been left with 1-2 extra slices after everyone is full? I’m interested to see if this concept makes it to market.

Laughter? I like, totally love it!

By Andi  //  Products, Web  //  View Comments

voodoo-knives1Do you ever find yourself at a total loss of what to get someone as a gift?  Sometimes you don’t know a person very well, or sometimes you know them too well and can’t figure out something they need.

In the craptastic economy we’re in, its easy to forget that gifts aren’t always supposed to be something the person “needs,” but instead something that they selfishly want.   If figuring out what they want is too hard, giving them something amusing is sometimes better.

Let’s all just admit for a moment that life can be lame.  Life can be boring and hard and bleak at times.  Isn’t laughter the best thing you can give someone?  Wouldn’t it be great to find a product that can be somewhat useful and amusing at the same time? read more

Zeer! You are what you eat!

By Andi  //  Food, Web  //  View Comments

orange-juiceThe other night I was talking to my dad on the phone and he told me that he drinks three bottles of Mountain Dew a day, each at 64 oz.!  He claims that since there is orange juice in “Mtn Dew,” that his consumption is almost healthy.  I’m wondering why he doesn’t just drink orange juice.

I wanted to research his claim and I found Zeer. It’s a nifty site that gives nutritional value on all the crap we shovel in our faces daily.  At first glace I was put off by the tag line: “Consumer reviews for healthy eating, organic food and green products.” It turns out this site is chock full of the quick and unhealthy snacks normal people actually eat.  I tend to eat first and think about calorie content later.  By the time I’m wondering what I’ve just consumed, the wrapper is long gone to the garbage. The product reviews and nutritional guides are pretty handy, as well as the lists of any allergens and ingredients for anyone who’s interested. You can search for products by name or UPC number (if you still saved the wrapper!).  You can add your own reviews and join different communities that will suggest new products to you.  read more

Skullcandy’s Smokin’ Buds

By Jon  //  Music, Products  //  View Comments

Skullcandy Headphones

I’ve been accused of consuming ear buds like candy. How can I help it? Since the explosion of portable media devices, the use of in-ear headphones as grown enormously. With each new ear bud purchase I take the gamble that what I’m buying is going to have a shorter shelf life than produce. I’m often asked what I actually “do” to the ear buds to make them so breakable. Rather than being rough or winding and unwinding the cord, I’m very gentle to my headphones. I know some are designed for light use, but I’m a person that uses them often and for many purposes. It always seems as if one earphone dies, the cord becomes ratted, or even the internal wire snaps. Is my only option a custom created high-end headphone exceeding hundreds of dollars? Luckily I have found an alternative.

After reading an article in a business magazine I discovered the Skullcandy brand. Skullcandy is an emerging producer of MP3 players and accessories. Taking a note from Apple, they’ve developed a lifestyle brand that speaks to the youth market and has been embraced by  snowboarders, Mac fanatics, and music-philes alike. They have a wide range of headphones, including their Full Metal Jacket ear buds, which are designed for maximum sound quality, and even wooden (yes, I said wooden) Holua buds created to be eco-friendly with unique acoustics. They also have several other brands marketed specifically for athletes and DJs.
